Okayama Marathon

The Okayama Marathon is a major autumn road race held in Okayama Prefecture. It features a full 42.195 km marathon and a 5.6 km Fun Run, both beginning together in the morning. This event ranks among the largest in the Chugoku-Shikoku region, accommodating 15,000 marathon runners and 1,400 Fun Run participants. The marathon is open to registered Japan Association of Athletics Federations runners, general individual entries, and general pairs, while the Fun Run also has individual and pair categories. Both routes commence in front of the Okayama Prefectural General Ground Gymnasium and conclude within JFE Okayama Stadium. The marathon course is certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations, and participants must adhere to time limits, with a final cutoff point near the 41.8 km mark. The event's theme, “Run, See, Support,” is evident in its structure: competitive runners can enter the certified marathon, pairs can participate together, and local residents receive priority entry before the general application period. Entry is determined by lottery, reflecting the high demand for a race with more applicants than available spots.

About cycling & running in Takamatsu

Takamatsu Coastal Training Notes

Running: Locals run Takamatsu like a coastal base, with easy loops on the Takamatsu Plain and small bumps when they want work. The 40 km shakeout with +7 m suits Z2 days before intervals. The 31 km route with +93 m gets used when flat legs need a sting. The 32 km route gains +72 m and feels right for steady base miles. The brief lists no named run club, so repeat routes do the grouping. Okayama Marathon gives the calendar an anchor event.

Cycling: Locals ride for sea, rivers, and short climbs in the same outing. Prefectural Route 150 sits by the Seto Inland Sea, and locals link it with Prefectural Route 36 around the Aji Peninsula when they want coastal base miles. 5 m. The climb is 3 km and gains 202 m. Yashima gives the northeast a clear climb target. The brief lists no named cycling club, crit, gran fondo, or cyclocross anchor.

Season: May to September is the main training block, and locals respect it because the same months bring the heaviest rain. Summer brings hot, humid days, so runners keep harder intervals tidy and riders push Z2 early along the sea. The Seto Inland Sea gives blue sky and ocean as far as you can see when the weather opens. Winter turns cool, and both sports get more measured. Runners stay on the Takamatsu Plain for rhythm, while cyclists use Prefectural Route 150, Prefectural Route 36, and the Koto River side when the legs want steady work.
