THE SPECTACLE
The Spectacle is a race weekend in Whakatū Nelson, New Zealand, with both rugged trail races and fast inner-city road running. The program is built for a wide range of runners and walkers, from shorter solo efforts to ultra-distance events, with the 22km race, 100km race, and Miler listed as part of the series. The 22km event is actually 23km long and climbs about 660 metres before giving the same amount back on the way down. It is a solo race with two aid stations, an 11-hour time limit, and a field listed at around 1,000 participants. Its ITRA mountain, finisher, and National League labels suggest a proper trail test rather than a casual fun run, while the city racing gives the weekend a faster, more accessible side.
