Kitakyushu Marathon
The Kitakyushu Marathon takes place in mid-February in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka, Japan. Its main event is a certified 42.195 km marathon. The race also includes 20.7 km, 5 km, and 3 km runs, along with children's races, ensuring the weekend caters to more than just full-marathon participants. The marathon is a Boston qualifier, open to individuals 18 years and older, with a 5 hour 40 minute time limit and checkpoint cutoffs. The course winds through the city and towards the coast, incorporating Kitakyushu’s blend of tourist attractions and industrial zones. These industrial views are significant: the city was instrumental in Japan’s modernization, and the race highlights this local history instead of presenting a standard urban circuit. The final miles are flat and conducive to maintaining pace, making the marathon a sensible option for runners aiming for a personal best. Kitakyushu City and the Kitakyushu Track Field Association are the organizers, and the race is a full member of AIMS.
