Michigan City Extra Mile Youth Camp

The Michigan City Extra Mile Youth Camp runs for four weeks at Gardena Park in Michigan City, Indiana, serving children ages 5 to 13. Practices occur on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 7:00 pm, with check-in beginning at 5:45 pm. All ability levels are welcome. The camp focuses on helping children experience running in a safe, fun environment before participating in the Extra Mile One Mile Challenge Race. Campers engage with experienced coaches through running exercises, drills, games, and weekly themes, making the training feel like an introduction rather than a rigorous racing program. A parent meeting is scheduled at the camp's start, and families receive weekly updates and weather notifications. The program has introduced over 500 young runners to running and cross country. Proceeds from the One Mile Challenge benefit local middle and high school cross country teams.
