Tryavna Ultra is a July mountain race series based in and around Tryavna, a historic town in Bulgaria’s Balkan Mountains. The main running options range from short trail distances to long ultramarathon efforts, with past and listed courses including 141 km, 100 km, 76 km, 42 km, 23 km, and 21 km routes. The longest listed ultra reaches 141 km with 5,840 m of climbing, while the 76 km route adds 2,820 m and the 23 km route adds 706 m. The event also includes mountain-bike races of 70 km and 25 km, duathlon formats pairing MTB and running, and a free 3 km run for beginners, children, and tourists that uses the same start and finish area as the longer distances. The long route goes through the architectural park of Bozhentsi, woodlands in the Bulgarian Woman eco-park, three municipalities, and many villages. Runners also pass through forests, fields, and the old town of Tryavna, with the finish set in the town center. Tryavna Ultra counts as a qualifier for Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc, with the 141 km race carrying 6 UTMB points and the 76 km race carrying 4. Every finisher receives a medal, and the field ranges from serious ultra runners chasing qualification points to local trail runners, cyclists, duathlon racers, first-timers, children, and tourists trying the short course.

Running: Locals run Lovech like a small, useful training town. Stratesh Park sits on the 250 m high plateau to the east and works for steady Z2, short climbs, and easy loops. The river Osam gives the city centre a simple line for relaxed base miles. The river route covers 84 km and gains 60 m, so it fits a weekday tune-up. Lovech runners do not have a named run club in the brief, but the local sports scene is real. Beyond the Bridge, Marathon Pleven, Tryavna Ultra, and Zlatitsa Run sit on the race radar.
Cycling: Locals ride out of Lovech when they want quiet roads, punchy climbing, or a bigger day toward the Balkans. The first route runs 7 km and climbs 237 m, so it is a neat interval loop. The second route runs 9 km, climbs 420 m, and has that local note: Route used by the cycling group of Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant. The climbs sit east on the Stratesh plateau, southwest by Hisarya and Bash Bunar, and higher on Akbair Hill at 450 m. Cup Troyan, Pleven Duathlon Cup, Baykandzhii 2026, and Cup Bulgaria 2025 give riders anchor targets.
Season: April feels like the clean start for both sports, and July is when most people cycle in Lovech. Locals use spring for base miles, longer rides like Standartno do Apriltsi, and sharper running before the bigger trail days. Summer gives runners early starts by the Osam and riders longer Z2 blocks before the heat settles in. The city sits around 200 m, so the terrain stays mixed without feeling huge. Winter has no hard detail in the brief, so the plan stays simple: runners keep dependable loops, and cyclists lean on shorter rides, quiet asphalt, and hill repeats when the day allows.
