The Austria eXtreme Triathlon begins in Graz and concludes at the valley station beneath Dachstein mountain. This annual Austrian long-distance triathlon, held since 2015, features Ironman-style distances made more challenging by mountain terrain and approximately 6,000 meters of total elevation gain.
The race begins with a 3.8 km swim in the Mur river, covering 2 km downstream and then 1.8 km back upstream. The 186.6 km bike course winds through the surrounding mountains, including 3,860 meters of climbing. The 43.6 km run adds a further 1,960 meters of climbing over locations such as Sölksperre, Strubschlucht, Ramsau, Glösalm, and the Dachsteinsüdwandhütte, before finishing at the Dachstein. Austrian athlete Michael Strasser has won the event twice, and previous champions have hailed from Austria and Germany.
