The Neufeldersee Triathlon takes place on the shore of Neufelder See, near Neufeld an der Leitha, on the border of Lower Austria and Burgenland. First held in 1988, it is one of Austria's longest-running triathlon events. The primary race distances are the Olympic (1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run) and the Sprint (750 m swim, 20 km bike, 5 km run). The event attracts international competitors, with approximately 900 athletes registering for its races in a recent edition.
The race follows a conventional format: swim in the lake, followed by a bike and run through the Neufeld area. A no-drafting rule is generally in effect, except when the race serves as a State Championship. Austrian national titles have been contested here multiple times for both Olympic and Sprint distances, and Burgenland's Olympic-distance championship has also been hosted. The event weekend includes youth races held annually before the main triathlons, and the Neufeld-Seecrossing offers separate 2 km and 3.5 km open-water swims. A combined ranking for the Sprint and short-distance events determines the King or Queen of Neufeld each year.
