The ABRAXAS-Triathlon begins and ends at the swimming hall in Aachen-Brand. The youngest athletes start first in the morning. Organized by Brander Schwimmverein 1973 e.V., this early-May sprint triathlon sees about 600 participants in individual, relay, children’s, junior, and beginner races. The main sprint format includes 500 metres of swimming, 22 kilometres of road cycling, and 5 kilometres of running.
The swim takes place indoors at the Brand swimming hall. The cycling leg goes through Eich and Oberforstbach, finishing with a challenging run featuring the Brander Wall. Local support is significant, with approximately 120 volunteers assisting in the pool area and as marshals on the course. Younger age groups compete in shorter relay distances: 200 metres swimming, 4 kilometres cycling, and 800 metres running for school-age categories. Older youth relays use the same 500-metre swim, 22-kilometre bike, and 5-kilometre run as the sprint race.
