CanLake Ultras guides runners around Canandaigua Lake in New York's Finger Lakes region during peak fall foliage. The series centers on a 50-mile road ultra, accompanied by a 50 km solo race, a solo pacer option, and a 50-mile relay captain entry. The 50-mile race is a single loop on mostly flat to rolling roads, though it presents challenges: several significant climbs punctuate the route, including the locally recognized Bopple Hill.
The 50 km race covers the final 31 miles of the 50-mile course, offering runners the lake-and-vineyard scenery without the demanding initial section. This shorter ultra features considerably less elevation change than the first 19 miles of the full loop, positioning it as a suitable first ultra or a progression from the marathon. The race is fully supported with 11 aid stations, permits personal handlers under specific safety regulations, and has been a fixture in the local ultra community for over two decades. Organizers have eliminated the 25k MiniCan to maintain the event's focus on its primary ultra distances.
