Break the Bank 2026

Break the Bank is a 50-mile ultramarathon in Minnesota’s Northland. Runners begin in Sturgeon Lake and conclude at Morgan Park in New Duluth. The course follows most of the Willard Munger Trail, making it a long point-to-point race. Over a hundred participants started, representing 14 states. The finish provides the race its name: participants arrive at the historic Park State Bank building. They then enter the former bank to open a safety deposit box. Each box offers a chance at cash, typically $200 to $500, or gift certificates for local running stores. The leading runners complete the distance in under seven hours, with most finishers crossing the line around eight hours. Co-founder Dane Rauschenberg views the race as part of an open ultra-running community, and organizers aim for it to become an annual Northland tradition.
