The James – Alpine Adventure Race begins at Lake Tennyson in New Zealand’s St James Conservation Area. Racers receive their briefing before an 8:00 AM start for this one-day multisport event, part of The James Mountain Sports Series. The race incorporates kayaking, mountain biking, and trail running, with swimming included in some formats.
The longest course features a 1.5 km swim, 7 km kayak, approximately 64 km of mountain biking, and about 17 km of high-country running. Shorter options omit the swim, the kayak, or both. This allows individuals and relay teams to select a course ranging from a bike-and-run to the complete four-discipline event.
