Big Bang Dirt Duathlon Race 1

Big Bang Dirt Duathlon Race 1 is the opening round of a three-race mini adventure series in New Zealand's Horowhenua/Kapiti area, with the first race set for late June. It is an off-road duathlon/multisport event rather than a standard road run: teams move on foot and by bike, with mountain biking, hiking, and navigation all part of the job. The course is kept secret before race day, so teams of two, three, or four have to find their way around it instead of just following marshals and distance markers. The expected time on course is about three to four hours, depending on pace, and the format leans heavily on teamwork as well as fitness; another round follows in late July for anyone doing the wider series.
