Elbe Trail Challenge

The Elbe Trail Challenge is a spring trail-and-hiking trip on Elba, the Italian island situated between Corsica and Tuscany. Runners compete as individuals across four timed stages, with an overall ranking, marked routes, and aid stations approximately every 10 to 12 km. Hikers follow a gentler, untimed version, meaning the week caters to those not solely focused on achieving a specific time. The route incorporates three stages of the Grande Traversee de l'ile d'Elbe and adjacent variants. It follows ridge paths through easy medium-mountain terrain, offering views toward Corsica on one side and the Italian mainland on the other. The final racing stage is a Vertical Kilometer, ascending from sea level to Mont Capanne, the island's highest point at 1,019 meters. Participants are based in Porto-Ferraio at a hotel facing the beach, concluding with time in Pisa and Florence, visiting landmarks like the Leaning Tower and admiring Renaissance architecture. Elba holds historical significance due to Napoleon Bonaparte's period of exile there.
