Running: Locals run straight toward Vrachanski Balkan when they want real hill work, because the city sits at the foot of the mountain. The route covers 14 miles with 1453 feet of gain. The path stays mostly visible, but it can get overgrown, so locals treat it like trail shoes territory. Tompson - vr. 7 Hills Run is the anchor race name people know here.
Cycling: Vratsa Trails sets the tone for riding, and the local crew has cleaned, secured, and mapped more than 150 km of mountain trails. Vratsa Mountain gives riders intermediate to expert enduro lines, with natural rocky and steep sections, berms, jumps, and drops. The climbs sit in Vrachanski Balkan, where the mountain reaches 1481 m and gives every Z2 ride a serious backdrop. Vratsa Velo Society keeps the road side moving with competitions, bike tours, and I Can Do 100 km on a Bike Tour. The Enduro race is the anchor for the gravity crowd.
Season: March to November is the best riding period, and locals use those months for base miles, long trail days, and steady road work. Summer brings hot humid continental weather, so riders start early in the city centre and head to the mountain for cooler air. Runners keep Lyutidol and the Tompson routes in play, but overgrown paths ask for sharper eyes after rain. Winter brings cold humid continental weather, and both sports slow down. Cyclists pick cleaner windows, runners stay flexible, and the well maintained skiing tracks become part of the cold-season rhythm.
