L'Etape Bulgaria

L'Etape Bulgaria is a road cycling event held in Peshtera, located in the Western Rhodopes. The start and finish lines are situated in the town center. As part of the official L'Etape by Tour de France series, amateur cyclists participate in a closed-road race featuring Tour-style elements, distinct from a standard sportive. Participants can choose between The Race, covering 112 km with 2,140 m of elevation gain, and The Ride, a 58 km route with 1,090 m of elevation gain. The route crosses the Pazardzhik region, ascending to St. Konstantin at 1,350 m. It then follows the road alongside Batak Lake before returning to Peshtera. Competitors in the long-distance categories vie for Tour de France-style jerseys: Yellow, Green, White, and Polka Dot. The top three male and female finishers in the overall standings receive complimentary entry to L'Etape du Tour in France. The event weekend also covers registration, a Tour de France Museum, a Family Ride, and a Kids Race, offering more than just a competitive start for dedicated cyclists.

About cycling & running in Pazardzhik

Pazardzhik Training Notes

Running: Pazardzhik gives runners a flat city base along the Maritsa river, with the Upper Thracian Plain keeping easy miles simple. Locals use Morning Trail Run when they want dirt, rhythm, and a bit more bite. The running scene feels small and informal, so locals keep it direct: Let’s trail run together! Running in Plovdiv works as the nearby anchor event for steady legs, while Fast Walking 100 km pulls the tougher crowd toward Chernatitsa ridge. FC Hebar Pazardzhik keeps the local sport name visible, even if runners mostly build their own groups.

Cycling: Pazardzhik gives riders a lot to work with, because the area lists 1,302 cycle routes. Locals use Ovanes Sovadzhiyan, Pazardzhik to bul. The route covers 8 km with 365 m of climbing. VC Hebar Pazardzhik carries the club flag. Granfondo Bulgaria and L'Etape Bulgaria sit as anchor targets. The real climbing waits toward Chernatitsa ridge, Sredna Gora, Rila, Pirin, Rhodopes, and the sandy foothills south.

Season: July and August are the big months here, and locals actually ride most then. June, July, and August bring the higher temperatures, so runners keep intervals sharp and move Z2 work early. Cyclists use summer for base miles, gran fondo prep, and longer days toward Batak, Panagyurishte, Velingrad, and Peshtera. December, January, and February are the coldest months, so the rhythm changes. Locals still train, but the mood gets simpler: endure as long as you can, without unnecessary fuss. Winter suits steady river runs, shorter spins, and cyclocross-style grit when the foothills call.
