About this race
The Townsville Castle Hill Foot Race is a hill race held in North Ward, Townsville, on Castle Hill in tropical North Queensland. Organized by Townsville Road Runners, it offers two trail options: a 4.2km route suitable for those new to hill running and a more challenging 7.5km route for experienced participants. Castle Hill stands 286 metres above sea level, requiring at least basic fitness and preparation even for the shorter course.
The course ascends via winding paths and sections of natural bushland, featuring a sustained uphill climb followed by a descent where uneven terrain demands careful foot placement. From the summit, participants can see extensive views of Townsville, Cleveland Bay, and Magnetic Island. The event is also known as the King and Queen of the Castle, reflecting its straightforward objective: ascend Castle Hill with the fastest time. Townsville Road Runners is an inclusive local club, welcoming teenagers, older runners, walkers, members, and visitors to its events.
