Garden City Backyard Ultra 2026

Inside the Toowoomba Showgrounds, Garden City Backyard Ultra uses repeat laps through the Main Arena, the Peter Watts Criterium Track, and the Wilderness Challenge. As a backyard ultra, its character is simple and unforgiving: run the loop, reset, and continue while the field sorts itself out. The timing gives the race its odd charm, coinciding with the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, described as the "biggest tourist attraction on the Toowoomba Calendar." While runners complete showground laps, the wider town is decorated with public parks and private gardens that are planted, landscaped, and preened. This "flowers are in full bloom" atmosphere contrasts with the effort required by the runners.
