Longbeach Coastal Challenge 2026

The Longbeach Coastal Challenge begins and ends at the historic Longbeach Estate near Ashburton. The late November race day offers running, walking, biking, and duathlon options. As an annual community multisport event, it accommodates a wide range of participants: half marathoners, 12 km runners, family 5 km entrants, walkers, cyclists, solo duathletes, and two-person duathlon teams can select a suitable distance. The courses traverse off-road farm tracks, gravel roads, grass trails, coastal paths, beaches, and river crossings throughout Mid-Canterbury farmland. The 21 km half marathon forms a loop around the estate, featuring gravel, single track, and grass terrain. The 12 km run and walk extend towards the coast, incorporating one river crossing. The 5 km options are more accessible, with the walk route being flat, suitable for buggies, and without river crossings. Volunteers from Longbeach School and the Hinds & Districts Lions Club manage the event. Proceeds support local causes via the Longbeach School Charitable Trust, the Hinds and Districts Lions Charitable Trust, youth projects, and rescue charities.
