Hungarian running centers on Budapest — the SPAR Budapest Marathon and the Wizz Air Budapest Half each draw tens of thousands along the Danube — but Lake Balaton is the real engine: the NN Ultrabalaton (~220km around the lake) and the Balaton Supermarathon are mass-participation institutions. Trail running fills the Mátra, Bükk, Pilis and Vértes hills north of the plain. Cyclists know Hungary two ways: flat, fast road and time-trial routes across the Great Hungarian Plain (Alföld), and the Balaton Kör — a 200km lap of Lake Balaton ridden by thousands — alongside the Tour de Hongrie UCI stage race. Gravel and MTB run through the Mecsek, Bükk and Pilis. Triathlon clusters around Lake Balaton and the Tisza, with a full national federation calendar.
