Neckarlauf is a seven-stage ultrarunning race that follows the Neckar River from its source in the Schwenninger Moos, near Villingen-Schwenningen, to its mouth at Mannheim-Sandhofen, where it meets the Rhine. The race takes place from Sunday to Saturday, with daily starts at 7:00 AM. The complete route measures approximately 372 km, averaging about 53 km per day.
Runners gather first at the Neckarschule gymnasium in Schwenningen for an opening dinner and briefing before the initial morning start at the Neckar source. The event is designed for a small multi-day field, including aid stations, luggage transport, and shared lodging. Logistics are handled at both ends, with parking available in Schwenningen and Sandhofen, and a tram connection from Sandhofen to Mannheim.
