The Great Eastern Run is a flat, fast race day in Peterborough. The half marathon starts and finishes at the Embankment. A 5K is also included, broadening the field beyond a typical half marathon. Thousands of runners, spanning various ages and abilities, participate for the main distance, the shorter race, charity fundraising, or to achieve a fast time on closed city roads.
The route crosses Peterborough City Centre and its environs, utilizing fully closed roads. The course is promoted as one of the flattest half marathons in the UK. Good Running Events is the organiser. The event provides chip timing for both races, water stations along the half marathon course, pacing, medical support, post-race refreshments, and a medal for all finishers. Elite runners compete for trophies, while many others run for causes such as Living Sport and Sue Ryder, with the event aiming to raise substantial funds for charity.
