Sun City Barry James Memorial 5K and Half Marathon

The Sun City Barry James Memorial 5K and Half Marathon is a running series in Terrace Heights, Washington, east of Yakima. It takes place on the second Sunday of October, offering runners a choice between a USATF-certified 5K (3.1 miles) and a USATF-certified half marathon (13.1 miles). Both races begin and end at Volution Fitness on University Parkway. A separate early start is provided for half marathon walkers before the half marathon run and 5K commence. The Hard Core Running Club of Central Washington organizes the event with a practical, local setup. Water and bathrooms are located on the half marathon course around miles 3, 7, and 10. The course closes late in the morning, and refreshments are available for participants at the finish area. Awards are given to the first overall male and female finishers in both distances, as well as top age-group runners, with divisions ranging from young children to runners in their late eighties and nineties. Children under 12 can enter for free, adding a family-friendly aspect to the 5K alongside the longer race.
